Application Specification

build a micro saas tool — the brief is intentionally open-ended.

New Challenge: Build a Micro SaaS Tool

choose a real problem to solve for a specific type of user, then build a small but fully functional saas tool that a stranger could use. you must:

  • use the required stack: next.js + typescript + tailwind css + supabase (same as the technology stack section above)
  • implement real supabase auth
  • include at least one paid-tier gate — a feature only accessible after "upgrading" (simulate the state in the db, no real payments needed)
  • handle and display real errors gracefully
  • deploy to a live url (vercel or netlify recommended)

What to Submit (via Email)

  • live url
  • a written document (300–500 words) answering: what problem does this solve? who is the user? what did you decide not to build and why? what's the biggest technical decision you made and what were the tradeoffs?
  • evaluator credentials (email + password)

Evaluation Criteria

Your submission will be judged on the following:

1.Product sense — did they pick a real problem or a toy? Is the scope reasonable?
2.Decision-making — does their write-up show real tradeoffs?
3.Code quality — structure, naming, error handling
4.AI fluency — they are encouraged to use AI tools, but must understand what they built
5.Judgment under ambiguity — the spec is incomplete by design; what did they choose and does it make sense?
6.Authentication & access control — is the paid-tier gate properly implemented?

Submission Guidelines

Important Notes

  • You are encouraged to use AI tools & any node libraries to help with your development. We care about results and problem-solving ability, not how you get there.
  • Be sure to test your application thoroughly before submission.
  • If your solution meets all requirements and demonstrates good development practices, you'll be automatically admitted to our team without further interviews.
  • It's important to gain a clear understanding how each used technology works during development as they will be used in future projects at moondev.
  • Your challenge variation is assigned when you submit your email. Do not share your variation with other candidates — each submission is fingerprinted. Identical or near-identical solutions will be disqualified.
  • Your countdown starts when you submit the registration form to receive your assignment — we factor that timestamp into our evaluation.
  • If you copy the code of a fellow developer, you will be disqualified, as each source code will be tested for fingerprint uniqueness.

FAQ

Internship questions

Eligibility, pay, remote work, AI tools, deadlines and feedback.

Who can apply for the MoonDev internship?

Anyone who can build and deploy a small web app with Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and Supabase: students, recent graduates and self-taught developers. There is no degree requirement and no CV screening. You are judged on the challenge submission, and the team you would join works from Byblos, Lebanon.

Is the internship paid?

Compensation, duration and start date are shared with you after your challenge is reviewed, together with the offer. We do not publish a fixed package because it depends on the role and the period. If you need this before starting the challenge, email info@moondev.solutions and we answer directly.

Can I do the internship remotely?

The coding challenge itself is fully remote. The MoonDev team works from Byblos, Lebanon, and whether the internship is on-site, hybrid or remote is agreed after the review, based on where you are and the project you would join.

Can I use AI tools during the challenge?

Yes. You are encouraged to use AI tools and any npm libraries. What matters is that you understand what you built: the 300 to 500 word write-up and the code review show whether you can explain your decisions and their trade-offs.

What happens if I miss the 7-day deadline?

Your countdown starts when you receive your assignment, and that timestamp is part of the evaluation. A late submission is still reviewed, but on-time delivery is one of the signals we look at. If something serious comes up, email us before the deadline.

Do I get feedback on my submission?

Yes. Every submission is reviewed by a MoonDev developer against the six criteria on this page. If your solution meets the requirements you are admitted without further interviews. If it does not, we tell you what fell short so you can improve for the next round.
